The Use of Constructed Wetland for Mitigating Nitrogen and Phosphorus from Agricultural Runoff: A Review

نویسندگان

چکیده

The loss of nitrogen and phosphate fertilizers in agricultural runoff is a global environmental problem, attracting worldwide attention. In the last decades, constructed wetland has been increasingly used for mitigating from runoff, while substrate, plants, structure design remain far clearly understood. this paper, optimum substrates plant species were identified by reviewing their treatment capacity related studies. Specifically, top three suitable are gravel, zeolite, slag. terms species, emergent plants most widely wetlands. Eleocharis dulcis, Typha orientalis, Scirpus validus species. Submerged (Hydrilla verticillata, Ceratophyllum demersum, Vallisneria natans), free-floating (Eichhornia crassipes Lemna minor), floating-leaved (Nymphaea tetragona Trapa bispinosa) also promoted. Moreover, site selection methods put forward. Because existing research results have not reached an agreement on controversial issue, more studies still needed to draw clear conclusion effective This review provided some recommendations selections wetlands reduce nutrients runoff.

Effectiveness of Constructed Wetlands in Reducing Nitrogen and Phosphorus Export from Agricultural Tile Drainage

nutrient in estuaries. Phosphorus enters surface waters in both dissolved and particulate form and is generally Much of the nonpoint N and P entering surface waters of the the limiting nutrient in lakes. A large portion of the N Midwest is from agriculture. We determined if constructed wedands could be used to reduce nonpoint N and P exports from agricultural and P now entering U.S. freshwater ...

Phosphorus retention in a newly constructed wetland receiving agricultural tile drainage water.

One measure used in Sweden to mitigate eutrophication of waters is the construction of small wetlands (free water surface wetland for phosphorus retention [P wetlands]) to trap particulate phosphorus (PP) transported in ditches and streams. This study evaluated P retention dynamics in a newly constructed P wetland serving a 26-ha agricultural catchment with clay soil. Flow-proportional composit...

Nitrogen removal in constructed wetland systems

Since the mid 1990s, constructed wetlands have been increasingly used as a lowenergy ‘green’ technique, in the treatment of wastewater and stormwater, driven by the rising cost of fossil fuels and increasing concern about climate change. Among various applications of these wetlands, a significant area is the removal of nitrogenous pollutants to protect the water environment and to enable effect...
